When I look at the action-figure-inspired image of myself — complete with my Canon camera, MacBook, Jordans, and a heart powered by an LVAD — I see more than just a creative visual. I see a living testimony. A story shaped by survival, purpose, and God’s mercy.
My Life Changed Forever on March 2, 2015
That day, I received my LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device). What’s more — it’s also my daughter’s birthday. From that moment forward, I wasn’t just living for me. I was living for her, for my son, and for the future God was still writing.
Later that year, my world shifted again when I lost my wife to pancreatic cancer. I became a single father overnight, raising two young children while recovering physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
But even in the darkest moments, God’s grace and mercy sustained me. I clung to my faith, and step by step, I began to rebuild my life — heart first.
From Heart Failure to Healing
Living with an LVAD isn’t just about the technology that keeps you alive — it’s about rediscovering your purpose, your voice, and your “why.”
Being on disability gave me the time to pour into photography — something I’d always loved. Over time, I turned that passion into a career. Today, I’m proud to say I’m a portrait and fashion photographer using my gift to capture moments, tell stories, and connect with others.
I didn’t just survive — I thrived. And every single day, I give God all the glory.

Meet Shawn Connors, a man who’s faced some tough health challenges. Born with a heart murmur, he had his first heart surgery at just three. But life threw him another curveball when he was 37, diagnosed with DIFIB.
Things got even worse when Shawn’s wife, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, fell ill at 40. Shawn, determined to take care of her, was also battling his own health issues. It was clear that he needed an LVAD. Six months after the implant, Shawn’s wife sadly passed away, leaving him as the sole caregiver for their two elementary-aged children.
Despite the immense grief, Shawn found a way to channel his emotions into something positive. He started a podcast called LVAD Talk, where he interviews other LVADers, including heart transplant recipients. His videos and podcasts are available on YouTube and LVADTalk.com.
In addition to his podcast, Shawn is also the owner of Connors Studio, where he creates and specializes in portraiture and lifestyle photography.
