At LVAD Talk, we don’t just spotlight heart devices—we shine a light on heart. And Dr. Lila Elliott’s story is overflowing with it.
In our latest video, we celebrate an extraordinary woman who not only earned her Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Kentucky, but did so while serving as the primary caregiver to her husband, Donye Elliott, during an unimaginably difficult time. Donye underwent nine heart surgeries, including receiving an LVAD just two years ago—all while Lila was pursuing her doctorate.
We honored her achievements with an intimate celebration at Aberdeen Barn Steakhouse in Virginia Beach, surrounded by love, gratitude, and reflection. 🎉
Why Her Story Matters
Dr. Elliott exemplifies everything we strive to share on this platform:
-
Perseverance in the face of adversity
-
Caregiving with compassion and courage
-
Academic excellence while navigating medical challenges
As a dedicated honor student, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a caregiver who never gave up, she proves that resilience and purpose can carry us through the most trying seasons of life.
“There were many nights I was studying in hospital rooms. But I never let go of the vision,” – Dr. Lila Elliott
